One Room Challenge | Week 5

Prettier than it sounds. Coral Essence by Benjamin Moore.

Prettier than it sounds. Coral Essence by Benjamin Moore.

It is so much fun to look at the other rooms on the One Room Challenge™! So many amazing spaces and so much talent! I really admire people who can make a plan and then stick to it. I start out with a ton of ideas and then see what I can bully Gary into letting me get away with. And here we are at week 5 already which means we have a LOT to do in the next three weeks. Here are a few highlights from this week!

Luckily, we have decided on a paint color. I really wanted Marlboro Blue. Gary really wanted beige. A nice coral color seemed like a good negotiation. Gary laid our sample deck out on the couch and picked a middle row of shades that he didn’t hate. After much combat, sulking, and a few hours on the Benjamin Moore Color Portfolio app, we are going with Coral Essence. I kind of hate the name so we might have to call it something else. “Coral Essence” sounds like a Designer Imposters Body Spray. If you like microwaved anchovies, you’ll love Coral Essence! However it does read a little “Royal Tenenbaums” in the right light so I think it is perfect.

DEATH BY DECISION MAKING

So now that we have paint, do we do subtle or extravagant curtains? I’m thinking turquoise (which Gary will hate) or olive (which Gary will hate even more) or a softer/blush color. Any thoughts? Hot pink?

Please don’t say “Go with white.”

ONE MORE DECISION MADE

We bought a rug! It should be here early next week. We compromised on a gorgeous shag champagne-colored piece of gorgeousness. It is 8’ round and will be perfect to go under the couch. Allegedly, if we measured correctly. Or at least it will look great under the coffee table. It kind of looks like a really sexy muppet. Like a Marilyn Monroe Muppet.

I may just sit here for the rest of my days.

Jesus, take the wheel this is glorious.

OTHER FUN UPDATES

This week we found a new sideboard for the parlor. The glorious one we were going to use was too short and small to hold both lamps. I don’t want it to be crowded.

Auctions are a great place to look for furniture and other unique items. We bought the sideboard, two side tables for the guest bedroom, and a strange nun painting for under $200.

We are debating painting the new sideboard but I think we will wait until the room is painted and see what we think. I still have a can of hot pink lacquer in the pantry.

Thanks so much for following along!

Next week: WHERE IS MY FRINGE, UK? I’m really hoping that my fringe shows up so I can work on my lampshades. ALSO, GOLDZILLA is still coming!
