Hooray for Week 4 of the One Room Challenge™!

This week we worked on finalizing the floor plan, accessories, and deciding what furniture we are going to use in the space. The Norma Costa Sofa is so big that we wanted the rest of the furnishings to be pretty minimal. We don’t want anything competing with the sofa. There’s only room for one star!

THE LAYOUT

We wanted this room to be pretty open. You can enter through the main hall (to the left in the above drawing) or from the living room (top middle) through the French doors. Lots of space for dance parties. I am an INCREDIBLE interpretive dancer. I used to be quite good at water ballet but my abs have descended into my body as I’ve grown to love baked goods.

One minor issue: I’m not sure where the Christmas tree goes so this all may have to move around seasonally. The room is a long rectangle so we want it to have a good flow for parties

THE FURNITURE

We have this gorgeous sideboard with a marble top that a friend gave us. It is incredible! We’ve debated painting it but I don’t mind the wood color. It is super French Provincial and I think it will go perfectly in the corner with two lamps and the record player.

I bought the world’s most magical lighted marble pillar at the Garnavillo Auction. It is monstrously heavy and I think I gave myself a hernia. Totally worth it. Debating putting our Greek statue or a faux bonsai (tried a real one. It died) tree on it. Or maybe just a pretty vase?

These glorious side tables and coffee table came with the sofa. They are super creepy and I love them! I would love to have been in the room with those designers. “I want angels but I want them to be sad. Like crying angels.” Mmmmkay.

ACCESSORIES

I feel like “accessories” is an understatement. Styling this space is so much fun! It is certainly going to be the most eclectic room in the house.

Fur and flowers: I’ve been digging through our throw pillow archive looking for some pink/blush/gold cases that will go with the color scheme.

There seems to be a Greek mythology theme going on. I have this amazing Diana (Goddess of the Hunt) wall hanging by Syroco. It is vintage 60s and will be amazing in this room. And a glorious white luster Goddess statue will also be perfect. Debating on tossing in the disco gnome and…

We also found this amazing vintage Godzilla action figure in our coach house. The previous owners were hoarders so we continue to find the most interesting leftovers around the property. I thought it would be really fun to give Godzilla a glam makeover and make him our mascot. GOLDzilla was born. Or maybe Gayezillla. I haven't decided yet. At any rate, I’ve had a really fun time gold leafing him.

Thanks so much for following along!

Next week: Big Goldzilla reveal and I’m working on some custom fringe lampshades if the fringe ever arrives. I didn’t realize my Etsy order was coming all the way from the UK. Now I’ll have imported fringe. Because I’m fancy.
